Placenta Encapsulation...I'm Going For It!!

When I was diagnosed with anxiety and put on medication it came as such a relief. I had anxiety for quite a long time but I feel like it was really heightened when I had Eliza. I am not sure if it was the change in hormones or the fact that I had another little bug to worry about, but I was consumed.

When I found out I was pregnant I stopped the medication. As I progressed through my pregnancy I knew I would not go back on medication as long as I was nursing. I started to research natural ways to help with my anxiety.

I came across Placenta Encapsulation and I will be honest, at first I was turned off. I mean honestly, it isn't the most common thing you hear of, and has a stigma attached to it.

After researching it a bit more I realized the tremendous benefits a placenta has for a postpartum woman.

  • Increased energy level
  • Quicker return to health after delivery
  • Increased production of breast milk
  • Decreased likelihood of postpartum depression
  • Decreased likelihood of iron deficiency
  • Decreased likelihood of insomnia or sleep disorders
All of these benefits at your fingertips after delivery yet we discard the placenta without even thinking twice. Each one of these speak to me.

Increased energy-With a 3 year old and a newborn I am going to need all of the energy I can get.
Quicker return to health-Who doesn't want to feel better quicker, especially after a c-section, I want to be back on my feet.
Increased milk production-Eliza and I had a tough time nursing and I am committed to making it work with Emelia, this will be a great help.
Decreased chance of PPD-This one speaks the loudest to me. Without being able to take my medication, I need as much help as I can with my anxiety.
Decreased chance of iron deficiency-With iron deficiency comes fatigue, weakness, irritability and so much more, all I would love to avoid.
Decreased chance of insomnia-With a newborn at home, I am getting little sleep as it is!

I decided to take the plunge and go for it!

Thanks to Courtney at Mothers Own Placenta Encapsulation Services it was all taken care of for me. When we got to the hospital we informed them that we wanted my placenta saved and gave them the instruction sheet Courtney had provided me. They knew our plan and were wonderful with accommodating. We let Courtney know that I was in labor and that we would be ready for her soon. When I delivered and we were in recovery Mark called Courtney and she was at the hospital within an hour to pick up my placenta.

The next morning I received an email that my placenta was all set and she would be dropping it off at the hospital that night. Talk about service! I didn't even have to leave my bed.

That night Courtney arrived with my placenta encapsulated, a bit of Emelia's cord(the rest had been used for cord blood) and a beautiful print of my placenta.

I will document my adventure with these pills. I will be honest with how they have impacted all of the above areas and tell you my true experience. I hope they are able to help me in my energy and milk supply and definitely faster recovery.

If you are interested in having your placenta encapsulated and are in the Metro Detroit area please contact Courtney with Mothers Own.
